Giant Doily Rug

Two posts in one day!! I thought I would share with you another finished job, its taken a long time (like 6 months!!) from start to finish. Anyone who has been over to our place within that time frame would have seen this project in various stages of construction.
And here it is finally completed. Our giant doily floor rug.

A 15mm hook was needed for this project and the inspiration came from here. The woman made her rug without a hook!!! The cord I used was actually 10mm cotton piping from the upholstery place where I used to work. I started with a reel that was given to me when I bought my industrial sewing machine from them, but that didnt quite make it large enough for my liking, so another reel was purchased to complete this. I would say approx 900m was used for this rug. Here are a few more shots while it was a work in progress:

Here it is completed and having a soak in napisan for a couple of days.
I needed to get the wheelbarrow in to get it out, once it was soaking,
it was impossible to carry on my own!

It then spent a day out on the trampoline to dry,
only then did it make its way back inside.

And a couple more shots of the FO!

That's all for today!!!
xx Emma

Thankyou all! Its definitely a one off piece, quite hard on the poor hands!!I love how it is a conversation starter right there on the floor in the living area!Even if its not everyone's cuppa tea- like my poor husband! ;)

Is there a pattern available for this doily rug? I love it.

Love this. I am trying to locate the piping to make one. Would you send me your pattern for this mega rug. I am going to attempt to make it. My email address is: kwcw1@hotmail.com. Thanks.

Dear anonymous, Im really sorry to say that I do not have a pattern for this as I basically made it up as I went and took no record of my stitches. The best thing I can suggest is that you find a doily pattern that you like and work on that!

That is gorgeous. I have made several rag rugs using strips of fabric, but never one using piping. I may have to try my hand at it if I can find the supplies.

Is there no pattern to this work of art? Or is it just there to tempt and tease? Puckfouse

Pinterest had me strand here, and I'm just SO amazed at this! Thinking about making one of these bad boys is one thing, but actually coming up with the material and DOING it is a totally different kettle of fish. It looks perfect under that itty bitty table, grubby paw prints (can't even see them) and all. Here's to you, lass, I salute you.

what size crochet hook did you use for this rug? It is absolutely gorgeous!!

Can you give me some advice and let me know how you decided which size crochet hook to use? I am making the same thing but my piping is 1/2" thick. Thanks a lot!

Your rug is amazing - any idea as to hoe much piping you used? Rough estimate. Like you I'm up for winging it but it would be useful to get a heads up on how much cord to buy. Many thanks for the inspiration. :0)
